There was a time when the best indicator of a global trouble hotspot was an entry in Kate Adie's diary. This millennium her mantle seems to have passed to Tony Blair, who having managed to bring this country to its knees has now set his sights on the Middle East, where I believe they are well acquainted with this position. Surely there has been no greater misnomer than 'Middle East Peace Envoy'. No wonder his itinerary for the next 18 months is such a closely guarded secret. Perhaps we should be grateful that this latter day Lot has turned his attentions to foreign shores. The ability to reduce all things to a pillar of salt should go down a treat in a region that is largely desert. Lot with the one hand, Midas with the other, a heady dichotomy indeed. I am not sure whether his next feat will be to walk on water or part the Red Sea.
Thankfully, the ever righteous 'Tone' has so far managed to stay his ministrations from the 2012 Olympics, then I doubt this country could any longer afford his appearance fees.
